We've
listed a few ideas for you to use in your own business,
hopefully to get your creative brain working. And
if you decide to get a list from us or use one of
our services to help you implement your campaign,
that's a bonus for us...we'd love to discuss further
with you!
Mail
& Telemarketing Promotion
Many people, especially consumers, loathe receiving
cold phone calls, and now it's against the law to
cold call someone on the Do Not Call Register. Make
it warmer for your telemarketing team by firstly
mailing your prospects a brochure or your sales
material, then follow up with a telephone call.
This gives your salespeople a good 'reason' to call.
Even if the person cannot remember your brochure,
you may still be able to ask for an appointment
or at the very least to add them to your database
for follow up later....maybe ask for their email
address so you can build your own opt-in email database
(more info below on this)!
Or
perhaps use of the Lead
Generation services so you are not cold
calling.
Fax
Campaign
Thanks to our anti-spam laws, fax marketing to business
has made a big comeback. It's cheap and fast, and
can be effective if you have a completely relevant
message.
What
doesn't seem to work is faxes crammed with 3 or
4 columns of information, or inappropriate messages
to the business...just like any badly targeted campaign.
What
does seem to work is a nicely laid out fax
with a good, catchy headline. Remember, fax is a
bit like a billboard. They'll look to the top of
the fax to see "the headline".
We
have a couple of clients who sell products specific
to pharmacists. Their fax campaigns to pharmacies
are usually well-received and they get orders, as
you would expect.
Fax
and Telemarketing
Why not follow up a fax campaign with a phone call?
By getting a personalised fax and telemarketing
list, this will give you a much better chance of
getting through the dreaded receptionist as you
have a "reason" to call!
Email
Marketing - Building Your Own Database
Australia's tough anti-spam laws make it almost
impossible to send cold emails to business.
There are a couple of lists around that you can
rent and use that are not opt-in and may
sail a bit close to breaking the law, but as businesses
tend to have spam filtering software, cold email
campaigns tend to have a very poor response rate...although
we've got a long term client who markets seminars
to HR Managers and it works very well. They also
build their own email database from these campaigns
so they may come to rely less on lists.
There's
also a few opt-in membership databases that are
owned by companies. These tend to be for IT and
small business, which is fine if you are targeting
these. But if you want to target CEO's and CFO's,
sometimes you are much better using personalised
snail mail, a phone call, or mail and a call (see
mail and telemarketing above).
Consumers
are a little easier to cold market to via email.
There are plenty of good member databases that we
can help you with where you can run a campaign to
push people through to your website. The good thing
is, emails are sent co-branded with the list owner.
This means your email is more likely to get through
a spam filter, and you get some cred from the list
owner.
Sending
an email to a 'house list' (your own list) always
gets a much better response rate because the recipients
know you. ...it's one of the cheapest forms of marketing
and so easy to do! Simply ask for their permission.
That's it. You can send a letter, get your receptionist
to ask callers, put a sign on your counter, run
a promotion, or get a telemarketer to call your
customers to ask if they'd like to receive an email
newsletter from your company. When you send out
an email, always identify who you are, personalise
it, and put an opt-out at the end. A simple "reply
with the word REMOVE to opt-out" should
suffice.
All
the above applies to SMS campaigns too.
